جغرافياي طبيعي (توپوگرافي،آبوهوا،پوشش گياهي و…) اين کشور بسيار متنوع است که بر تراکم جمعيتي و اقتصادي و نيز نابرابري‌هاي منطقه‌اي تأثيرگذار بوده است. جغرافياي انساني اين کشور نيز به لحاظ ترکيب قومي و… يكدست نيست.
